    WHAT IS VACUUM EXCAVATION?

Vacuum excavation, also referred to as suction excavation, is a reliable, safe, environmentally friendly and cost-effective method when extracting materials from below the ground’s surface.

A vacuum excavator vehicle extracts loose debris from beneath the surface of an excavation site, without damaging any underground utilities or surrounding infrastructure that may be present.

    MINIMISE DISRUPTION

Liverpool’s roadway network, especially within the city centre, consists of a lot of one way traffic. In a bid to help reduce the congestion caused, better connect the city, improve conditions for both pedestrians and motorists and improve overall air quality, over a £100 million roadwork programme has begun taking place across various areas of the city. The city is also home to four universities, contributing to both an overall increase in infrastructure and population density over the past few years. It is imperative that our projects are carried out as efficiently as possible to ensure that works do not interfere with the daily operation of the city and contribute to increased congestion.

Vacuum excavation is both accurate and efficient in its operation. This method is highly effective and is guaranteed to prohibit the expense of time and money on-site, helping to reduce overall disruption to both vehicle and on-foot traffic.

INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY BY UP TO 1,200%

    • Traditional methods are far less efficient than vacuum excavation
    • Unnecessary time spent on the project is reduced
    • Staff workload on-site is diminished
    • On-site materials are easily extracted and removed, regardless of consistency
    • Immediate employment with a VAC UK excavator is guaranteed
    • A third of the space required when compared to a mini digger
    • Cleaner and more compact sites, reducing waste and disruption
    • Stand-alone machine operation
    • Combine with soil engineering equipment impact moles keyhole liquid soil

    MAKE IT SAFE

In major cities like Liverpool, there is a larger possibility of striking an underground utility or causing damage to surrounding infrastructure when compared to a city of smaller sizing. Due to the high density of both the population and infrastructure, a significantly larger cost could be incurred if an operator were to strike, and potentially cause injury to passers-by.

Not only does a vacuum excavator vehicle substantially decrease the possibility of damage caused to the environment and surrounding infrastructure, they are also operable from a great distance, ensuring the safety of the team on-site and people passing in the street.

VACCUM EXCAVATION IS SAFER THAN MANUAL LABOUR

    • Manual handling of machinery is not required
    • Utility damage is greatly decreased through the use of p.e. pipe extension tubes
    • Both the vacuum excavator and its operators are insulated by extension tubes, which is advantageous in hazardous situations
    • 60% decrease in damage to utilities and infrastructure when compared with traditional methods

VACUUM EXCAVATION AND LIVERPOOL’S CLEAN AIR STRATEGY

Liverpool is the 3rd largest city in the UK and has been found to be one of fourty cities that have exceeded the air pollution limits set by the World Health Organisation, with air pollution contributing towards over 1,000 deaths per year. Decreasing these pollution levels are a legal requirement and steps are being put in place to manage and plan for this appropriately with the development of Liverpool’s Air Quality Interim Action Plan. Not only is Liverpool reviewing its road networks, but seven out of ten buses are now running on low emission fuels and the development of hydrogen-fuelled trains is also being trialled.

The council is also investing in offshore wind and the development of the Mersey Tidal Power Scheme, and a new Clean Air Zone has recently been proposed to the government, whereby vehicles that enter this zone would be charged when entering, in an effort to reduce overall emissions.

To build upon these initiatives and ensure that your project isn’t contributing to these increased pollution levels, our equipment and specially designed vehicles provide you with a more environmentally friendly alternative. Suction excavation considerably reduces the carbon footprint of your project, because numerous vehicles and personnel on site are no longer needed to carry out your requirements.

Our excavators are the perfect solution for those who have a vested interest in preserving their green credentials or are looking to minimise their environmental impact.

Suction excavation has many environmental benefits:

    • The removal of excess soil and shrubbery significantly improves the damage to and restoration of tree roots
    • Carbon footprint is greatly diminished through fewer lorries on site
    • The time-efficient grab load minimises third party damage and reduces disruption of traffic
    • Up to a third smaller site size when compared with traditional methods
    • Reduced site size facilitate pedestrian access and traffic flow
    • Sites are cleaner through allocated waste sections
